On Saturday night, May 1st, the 5th and 6th grade Sunday School class from a Baptist Church in Burnsville, North Carolina gathered to work on one of their favorite projects – sending cards and letters to wounded Marines. Kathy, a Marine Mom whose son is in 3/6 Lima Company, coordinated a sleepover for her class; the evening involved fellowship, prayer, fun, pizza and most of all, a lot of creative card and sign-making from a very enthusiastic bunch of kids!
Kathy and her Sunday School class have been following the updates of our Operation PAL Marines for a number of months and have sent batches of cards and letters before. At the beginning of the sleepover, a list of the current Operation PAL participants and their stories was printed out from the Operation PAL website so everyone could read it before the cards and signs were made.
The kids are always so excited to hear about how their “pals” are doing and they really look forward to the updates that are posted on the Operation PAL website. The church group’s next project is to figure out how to send a Braille card to Corporal Matthew and they are even begging Kathy to drive them to Camp Lejeune so they can visit him!
This Sunday School class project is a terrific example of how people can use our Operation PAL website to make things happen and support our troops right in their own communities. We greatly appreciate the kids’ enthusiasm in letting our injured and ill Marines and Corpsmen know how much people care about them and their recoveries.
