A few of our current and former Operation PAL Marines participated in the annual Marine Corps Marathon and 10K in Washington D.C. on October 25th.
It was a glorious day for a race among the national monuments, across the Potomac River, past the Pentagon and ending at the Marine Corps War Memorial in Arlington. The race times didn’t matter as much as the atmosphere and camaraderie. Entrants ran, walked or rode cycles powered by hand and many participated as families.
The Marathon gives our wounded and ill an attainable goal and Marines produce a very competitive bunch. They work hard in their physical therapy and push each other to succeed because they want to do well in the race.
MarineParents.com sponsored two former Operation PAL Marines this year. John and Josef both received cards and letters through Operation PAL and have since improved enough to be up to the challenge presented by the Marathon. Joe did the 26.2 miles on a hand-cycle and John ran. We could not be prouder of both of them.
Current Operation PAL Marines, Matt and Marcus, also completed the race and a note of congratulations is in order for them. We even snapped a picture of Gunnery Sergeant Marcus on his hand cycle as he finished the race. Ooh Rah to all!
Team Marine Parents’ participation in the race served as a fundraiser for Operation PAL - as well as Purple Heart Family Support and The Care Package Project. It’s not too late to donate to your favorite program. See the links below for lists of participants and to find out how you can donate to their fund raising goals.
